"How we spend our days is, of course, how we spend our lives."
If this quote seems a little obvious, it probably is. But lately, I can't stop thinking about it.
How often do we find ourselves thinking that:
I will be happy when I ...
Or after I finish this project, then I will ...
And when I just have this next thing, I can ...
What I have noticed is that, if we want to live the lives we want, we must start living them now.
Maybe you're thinking, "Well that's great, but I don't even know where to start."
When I find myself thinking like this, I get out two pieces of paper or open up a couple Word documents.
Before you start reflecting on what you have right now and what you want, close your eyes and take a few deep breaths.
For the next 15 to 20 minutes, pretend as if this is only thing you have to do right now.
Now you can get get out your papers...
And on one, write out your typical week now.
When do you go to work?
How do you spend the evenings?
What do you do on the weekends?
On the second page, write out your desired week.
How will each day look?
What will you do differently?
When will you spend time on yourself?
Now compare the two.
Think about three small steps you can take to move toward the life you want.
They don't have to be large.
Actually, ridiculously small steps are the best because they are easier.
Taking a 30-minute walk tomorrow during lunch is much less scary than trying to make it to the gym for 45 minutes five days a week.
Now friends, it's your turn...
In the comments, share the highlights of your desired week. And a few of the small steps you're committing to taking in the next couple of weeks.
